This horse safari in the Okavango Delta Botswana is guaranteed to be unique! Nowhere else on earth will you find such an impressive combination of wildlife diversity, varied landscapes, unspoilt wilderness, flora and fauna! Experience a unique, unrivalled African adventure with all the comforts and luxurious tents in the Okavango Delta!
Beschreibung & Reiseverlauf
The Okavango Delta is one of the most impressive natural wonders on earth. The Okavango River seeps into the endless expanses of the Kalahari Desert, forming the largest inland delta in the world. In this paradise you will find An extremely high diversity and concentration of animal and plant species - the perfect back for a horse safari in comfort! Life in the delta is determined by the tide and the different water levels associated with it. The annual flood usually occurs in May/June. Until October (depending on the strength of the tide) the water level around the camp is relatively high and you will experience lively gallops through the flooded areas as well as a high concentration of wildlife. From November to April, the water slowly recedes. You can observe the animals at waterholes and enjoy the spring - many flowers and trees begin to bloom. Every season in the Okavango Delta has its own special charm! You start your riding safari with one of the most spectacular Okavango experiences, a flight over the delta (from Maun to the camp, approx. 30 min). A cool welcome drink awaits you at Macatoo Camp. You will stay in luxurious, large safari tents with 2 separate beds, wardrobe, desk, private bathroom with shower and toilet, as well as a small wooden platform with deckchairs for sunbathing, reading and watching wildlife - which you can also do from the comfort of your bed! The camp also has a comfortable large dining tent and a small pool with a hammock and sun terrace. Over the next few days on your horse safari in the Okavango Delta, you will experience varied rides with many unforgettable impressions:
Reiseverlauf
Example of your riding safari (flexible duration from 3 nights):
Day 1: Flight from Maun (approx. 30 min.) and onward journey with first game viewing to the camp, in the middle of the bush - welcome to the African wilderness! Time to relax, then first ride. In the evening you are invited to a stylish candlelight dinner under the stars. Every meal is a culinary experience - be amazed by the variety of African and international cuisine and the lovingly prepared dishes every day!
Day 2: Your next exciting day begins with a cup of hot tea or coffee in bed! After a light breakfast by the campfire, you set off on your morning ride. Enjoy the unique, peaceful atmosphere as the sun slowly rises and licks the glistening dew from the blades of grass... You follow the elephants on horseback and ride from one palm island to the next. You will be back at camp for lunch. After a delicious lunch of salad, fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat and other delicacies, you enjoy a long siesta before another exciting ride on fresh horses awaits you in the late afternoon. At dusk, there are again numerous opportunities to observe animals. You can relax and enjoy the marvellous sunset with a sundowner.
Day 3: In the early morning, you will once again set off on horseback to go stalking. Huge herds of antelope, wildebeest, buffalo and zebra galloping through the water make for an impressive sight! Break for a sumptuous champagne brunch under the giant baobab tree. In the afternoon you have another opportunity to observe elephants. In the evening, round off the eventful day with a cosy campfire.
Day 4: Todays ride takes you through vast grasslands - a unique opportunity to gallop with giraffes! In the afternoon you can relax in camp before setting off on a more leisurely ride in search of wildlife. Even the roar of the lions in the distance is impressive - with a bit of luck you might even get to see them. In the evening, you will often hear the laughter of hyenas in the distance or elephants splashing in the water...
Day 5: Today you penetrate even deeper into the heart of the Okavango Delta - unique wildlife encounters, certainly including large herds of buffalo and elephants, await you. At some of the waterholes you are sure to see hippos or crocodiles. You are guaranteed to spot countless bird species for which the Okavango Delta is famous.

But also enjoy the unique diversity of birdlife - over 400 different species can be found here, from small, colourful exotic birds to the impressive fish eagle! You can also spot hippos at some of the deeper water points.
Day 7: Huge expanses of water, covered with water lilies, are your destination today and home to many animals, including large herds of buffalo and giraffe. The famous Letschwe antelopes can also be found here in large herds.
Day 8: In the early morning, you will once again set off on horseback to go stalking. Huge herds of antelope, buffalo and giraffe galloping through the water make for an impressive sight! Depending on the weather, a little surprise awaits you today: a brunch in a very special place. In the afternoon you have another opportunity to observe elephants - large herds often gather at waterholes. In the afternoon you can relax in the camp, for example with a good book from the library by the pool or try your luck at fishing from the boat (depending on the water level). With freshly baked cake and fragrant coffee, you will fortify yourself for your sunset ride, which will again bring you plenty of game encounters.
Day 9: Your last ride takes you to the higher palm islands, which offer fantastic views. You gallop back to the camp and then unfortunately home.
Subject to change!
The main attraction of this unique riding tour is certainly the riding of very well-trained and safe horses in an unrivalled landscape full of countless wild animals! The riding pace is varied, sometimes at a leisurely walk to observe wild animals, sometimes at a brisk gallop through shallow water, alongside giraffes and herds of buffalo, zebra, antelope or wildebeest! Depending on the water level, you can also explore the delta in mokoros, dugout canoes - from the water you have a completely different, spectacular perspective for wildlife observation! The safari team is inspired every day anew by the diversity of the landscape and the different conditions depending on the season in order to put together the best programme for each day. The vast, unspoilt wilderness offers countless, varied and exciting possibilities. The Okavango Delta is a unique phenomenon with landscapes strongly characterised by seasonal flooding. The associated migration of the animals and the dramatic changes in the flora and fauna ensure that every horse safari is guaranteed to be unique!
