Reiseverlauf

Day 1: Arrival in Sofia. You will be picked up at the airport and start with a sightseeing tour. Afterwards you will be transferred to Sevlievo (approx. 190 km) in the northern Balkans. Dinner with discussion of the riding tour and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 2: After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, the transfer will take you to the riding school. Here you will meet your four-legged friends and after a short introduction by the guide, saddle up and off you go towards an old forest. You ride through dense woods and finally climb to the foot of the 10 km long and 120 m high famous mountain range Vitata Stena. Impressed by the sure-footedness of the horses, you can rely on your faithful companion and enjoy the magnificent mountain landscape of the nature reserve to the full. At lunchtime, you can fortify yourself with a small meal at the riding centre. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Sevlievo.
Riding time about 4 hours.

Day 3: You will have breakfast at the hotel and then go to the riding centre. Finally, you will set off on a new adventure. On the way to the small, hidden village Zhivko you will ride along the 10 km long and 120 m high rock chain Vitata Stena. On the way you will always have a view of the Balkan Mountains in the south. On the way you will have a picnic near the village Armenite. After this eventful day you will stay in a traditional, beautiful guesthouse in the small village Zhivko, where you can end the day with a rich dinner. Riding time: about 4,5 hours.

Day 4: After a cosy breakfast in the nice guesthouse you will be taken by car to the Etara open-air museum in Gabrova. Here you can experience the life of the 19th century perfectly and visit the antique rebuilt village with its original houses and windmills. In addition, you can admire the demonstrations of the craftsmen, who build old tools and instruments, weave baskets etc. Afterwards you will ride to the towns of Sabotkovtsi and Bozhentsi. They will ride you along the Yantra River over green, lush meadows through the impressive wilderness of the mountain landscape. Finally you will reach the town of Sabotkovtsi, where you will stay overnight. Riding time: about 4 hours.

Day 5: You will be brought to Bozhentsi by car. You will visit the ancient city, which is an attractive destination for many tourists. The beautiful location of the town in the middle of the picturesque hilly landscape of the Balkan Mountains, 13 km from Gabrovo, is as much a highlight of the town as the architecture of its buildings. Here you can admire the ancient buildings from the Renaissance, including old stone streets and the ethnographic collection, which gave the town a historical and cultural distinction of UNESCO in 1964. During the tour you will meet many legends about the tragic past of the Bulgarian people, for example from 1393, when the capital Veliko Turnovo was besieged by the Turks and the kingdom was destroyed for 500 years. The noblewoman Bozhana, who lost her husband, left the city with her children and took refuge in the Balkan Mountains. In the middle of the dark dripping forests, surrounded by wild animals, but protected from the eyes of the slave drivers, she built the first stone for the city of Bozhentsi, which was named after her. Today, one feels nothing of the tragedy of that time and the town rests in the varied nature of the hills, where the days pass peacefully in silence.
Afterwards you will ride towards Skalsko. The way there leads through hills and beautiful forests with small streams and lakes. You will have a midday rest on a meadow near Tsareva Livada. During the Second Bulgarian Kingdom the war horses of kings and rulers were kept there. Overnight stay in Skalsko. Riding time about 4,5 hours.

Day 6: You will have breakfast in the guesthouse. Finally you will drive by car to the Dryanovo Monastery, which almost burned down in 1876 in a battle of the biggest Bulgarian rebels. However, the abbey has been well preserved and is now one of the most important sights in the area. Afterwards you will visit the Bacho Kiro Cave, which is not far from the monastery. The cave is embedded in deep ravines. The winding cave consists of four floors and the labyrinthine passages have a total length of about 3.6 km. After the visit the today´s ride to Gostilitsa begins. At noon you stop and have a picnic on a beautiful meadow. Tonight you will spend in a hotel in Gostilitsa. Riding time: about 4 hours.

Day 7: You will have breakfast at the hotel, then you will visit the old capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, Veliko Turnovo. The town is still a popular tourist destination and many visitors come to admire its unique location on the steep bank and hinterland of the Yantra River, its historical traditions and architectural monuments. In the beautiful old town you can admire numerous old churches and other sights.
Finally you will ride off, back to the stable. Today´s ride will be a last highlight. You will ride through the wonderful Bulgarian wilderness, through dense, beautiful forests, crossing small rivers and crossing picturesque fields. Arrival at the stables. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in Sevlievo.
Riding time: about 4,5 hours.

Day 8: Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to the airport in Sofia.
